LAFAYETTE — Fun for students this summer, the LaFayette Library is holding weekly events on Tuesday at 1 p.m. from June 2 to July 7, with events from Raptor visits to flamingo dancing.

“On Tuesdays, both the LaFayette and Bradshaw Libraries host library performers,” said LaFayette Library Branch Manager Rachel Johnson. “Families can expect lots of laughs and fun. The performances last about 45 minutes, are free to attend and open to all ages.”

With a variety of events and programs coming from other counties, Johnson said partnerships help provide local students with exciting experiences that they would otherwise have to travel to experience.

“We are excited to have community favorite performers and some new to us performers as well,” she said. “Tuesday is a day to come to the library to be entertained and to learn new things. Having places like the AU Raptor Center visit the library helps families learn about what is offered, not too far from us. We love watching the community grow together and inviting performers to come to the library encourages community involvement.”

With many local families planning summer fun, Johnson said many favorite programs are returning.

“Animal Tales and the AU Raptor Center are popular shows,” she said. “Young children to adults are always fascinated by live animals and the chance to see them up close. These programs are welcomed by all in the community, and we look forward to hosting them.”

With space for all, Johnson said she is excited to see community members gather to learn and experience what the programs have to offer.

“All ages are welcome to attend these programs,” she said. “The programs are geared towards children, but are enjoyable by all in attendance. We've received general excitement. We tend to hear more about what they are excited about once the program starts.”

With six options to choose from this summer, Johnson said she hopes every child and community member will find one or more of the programs interesting and attend.

“Everyone has different interests and things that they enjoy,” she said. “By offering a variety of activities and programs, we hope to offer something for everyone. Oftentimes, after a show, children are excited to check out books about the animal they just saw or a book about juggling that a performer may have suggested. This is just one of the many ways children read for enjoyment over the summer.”

Ensuring accessibility and affordability, Johnson said the LaFayette Library's Tuesday Programs are free, and everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

“Offering free programs gives the community access to lots of fun activities,” she said. “Some of the library performers are from different states, so having them visit the library means that we are all able to watch a show that would possibly not be available otherwise.”

The LaFayette Library is located at 198 1st St. SE, LaFayette. For more information, follow Chambers County Library on Facebook or visit www.chamberscountylibrary.org.
