LaFayette swears in new council

LAFAYETTE — The newly elected LaFayette City Council members were sworn in on Nov. 3 by retired District Judge Myron Calvin Milford Jr.

Those taking the oath of office included:

• Mayor: Kenneth Vines

• District A Council Member: Emily S. Milford

• District B Council Member: Kim T. Langley

• District C Council Member: Toney B. Thomas

• District D Council Member: Charlene Story

• District E Council Member: Tammie B. Williams

Vines appointed Tammie B. Williams as mayor pro tempore.

The council voted to approve the following city appointments:

• Louis T. Davidson — City Clerk

• Christopher Trice — Police Chief

• James Doody — Fire Chief

• George J. Green — Street, Cemetery, Sanitation and Vehicle Maintenance Department

• Alfredia Silmon — Nutrition Center Manager

• Joseph “Mac” Tucker — City Attorney

• Chris Sanders — Electric Superintendent

• Sabrina Chatmon — Water Plant Superintendent

• Alan Gleaton — Wastewater Plant Superintendent

• Allen Garrett — Water Distribution and Waste Collection

• George J. Green — Building Inspector

The council also approved the 2025–2029 council committees proposed by Vines:

• Police and Fire Committee: Chair Tammie Williams, with Thomas and Langley

• Finance, Administration and Community Development Committee: Chair Kim Langley, with Thomas and Milford

• Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries Committee: Chair Charlene Story, with Milford and Langley

• Utilities Committee: Chair Toney Thomas, with Langley and Williams

• Street and Sanitation Committee: Chair Emily Milford, with Story and Thomas

In Other Business

• The council voted to approve Ordinance No. 490 regarding orders of procedures for the council meetings and to accept the ordinance on the first reading.

• The council voted to authorize the removal of former Council Member Terry G. Mangram’s name from the signature cards at the Farmers and Merchants Bank.

• The council voted to approve Resolution 2026-11-03-1 regarding the bank depository at Farmers and Merchants Bank.

The next LaFayette City Council Meeting will be on Nov. 17.
