Lanett approves $2.4 million gas line replacement contract

LANETT — The Lanett City Council held a special called meeting, Thursday, Sept. 4.

During the meeting Council Member Tamalita Dunn Autry read Resolution No. 09-25-04.

“To accept the bid for cast iron gas line replacement and approve and award of a contract to SEC,” Autry read. “Be it resolved that the city of Lanett intends to act upon a proposal for the base bid for the above referenced project in the amount of $2,435,213.77. Contingent upon properly executed agreement and bonds and approval by the city council to award contract. Be it further resolved that the governing body of the city of Lanett gives authority to execute the agreement to the mayor as the authorized representative to enter into an agreement with Southeast Connections LLC, a limited liability company of Conyers, Georgia. Adopted by the mayor and the city council of Lanett, Alabama, on the 4th day of September, 2025.” The council voted unanimously to approve the resolution.

Also during the meeting, Resolution No. 09-25-02 — Determination of weed nuisances and authorization of action was read by Autry. Several properties in the city have been determined as weed nuisances and constituting public nuisances. The resolution was approved.

District 4 Council Member Angelia Thomas read Resolution No. 09-25-03 — To accept the Alabama Tourism Department legislative grant for the recreation department.

“Whereas the City of Lanett has previously been awarded $2,600 from the Alabama Tourism Department legislative and whereas the Alabama Tourism Department appropriated $2,600 dollars from fiscal year 2024 funds to the city of Lanett,” Thomas read. “These funds are provided to assist with the expenses involved with the Greater Valley Juneteenth celebration of freedom that was held on June 19, 2025. Be it resolved by the mayor and the council of the city of Lanett, Alabama that the city of Lanett Trent McCants is hereby authorized to accept these funds. This is adopted by the mayor and city council of Lanett on the 4th day of September, 2025.” This resolution was approved.

In other business

• Council Members Ronnie Tucker, Angelia Thomas and Tifton Dobbs congratulated the winners of the recent municipal election. Tucker also thanked Recreation Department Director Trent McCants for recently starting a girls flag football league. Thomas also expressed appreciation for her time on the council by thanking city workers and her fellow council members.

• State Rep. Debbie Wood was also thanked by Thomas for the Juneteenth grant.
