Valley council discusses events, pay raises

VALLEY — As fall approaches, Valley Parks and Recreation is hosting and facilitating community events to get locals in the spirit for upcoming holidays and alley Parks and Recreation Director Jon Neal discussed some of the events during Monday night’s city council meeting.

“We have a community yard sale first weekend in October, and then we're on into our Fall Festival,” Neal said. “We're going to do a haunted hayride on Halloween night after Fall Festival through Lakeview Cabin, and then some other stuff coming in November and December, and then we're finishing up our tree trimming project this week on Ram Stadium Drive.”

In Other Business

• The council voted to approve the public consumption of alcohol for a 50-year class reunion for LaFayette High School to be held at Lakeview on Oct. 4.

• The council voted to approve the public consumption of alcohol for a birthday dinner to be held at Lakeview on Oct. 11.

• The council voted to declare certain items as surplus and donate it to the city of LaFayette.

• The council voted to approve election officials for the run-off election on Sept. 23.

• The council approved a three percent cost-of-living adjustment for city of Valley employees to be effective with the Dec. 4 payroll.

Announcements

• The next Valley City Council meeting will be on Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. EST at the Valley City Hall.

• The Valley municipal run-off election will be held on Sept. 23. All voting for the city of Valley will be held at the Community Center, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• There will be a special-called Valley City Council meeting on Sept. 30 at noon to canvass the run-off election results.
