CHAMBERS COUNTY — Chambers County is expected to receive funds from a settlement against Purdue Pharma and secondary Manufacturers over harms to community members from opioids after working with the state of Alabama on the settlement.

“Through the Alabama Attorney General's office and local council, a resolution has been placed before the trustee in the bankruptcy court that they are amenable to us to accept a resolution for $75 million for the state of Alabama,” said County Attorney Skip McCoy. “We would share in that resolution, based on the information that we have submitted to them as to the harmful effects of opioid has had on Chambers County.”

Through the funds received in the settlement, community members navigating opioid addiction will have access to further resources.

“Our citizens realize that some of this money is being spent to ensure that you get treatment and care if you have an opioid addiction, and that's through East Alabama Mental Health,” said District 6 Council Member Debra Riley. “We're beginning to at least get some of those funds back and use them so that our citizens are receiving benefits.”
