THE LAFAYETTE SUN
LAFAYETTE — From cheering on the sidelines to launching viral community social media campaigns, Maci Harmon Gregory has always found ways to champion her hometown. Now, she is stepping into a leadership role as a newly appointed member of the LaFayette Main Street 2026-27 Board of Directors.
A lifelong resident of LaFayette, Gregory represents Harmon Insurance, a local family-owned, independent insurance agency where she serves as office manager and a licensed insurance agent.
“We are an independent insurance agency that offers personal and business insurance coverage from multiple different companies,” Gregory said. “We are able to shop your risk for not only a great rate but for the best coverage. We sell auto, home, commercial and life insurance in both Alabama and Georgia.”
While this marks Gregory’s first official term on the board of directors, she is no stranger to the organization’s grassroots efforts. She has been actively involved since the program’s inception, serving on the promotions committee and earning the 2022-23 Main Street Hero Award for her dedication.
“This will be my first time serving on the board, although I have been with Main Street from the beginning,” Gregory said.
That promotional background sparked one of LaFayette Main Street’s most engaging social media traditions: Winston Wednesday. The campaign features Harmon Insurance’s beloved office dog touring local storefronts.
“I had the pleasure of starting our business social media promotion, Winston Wednesday,” Gregory said. “Winston is our office pup and seeing the smiles he brought our customers gave me the idea to share his positivity with our community. Each Wednesday, he visits a LaFayette Main Street business, we snap his picture, post it on Facebook with a riddle and the community guesses where he is. It gives a shout out to our businesses and brings smiles to everyone.”
Gregory sees Main Street’s mission as a balance of direct investment and local advocacy.
“I believe our mission is to help oversee the revitalization of our downtown with grant opportunities and community support to our LaFayette Main Street members,” she said.
For Gregory, the collective effort required to move the city forward makes board service particularly meaningful.
“Serving on the board gives you the opportunity to create relationships with other business owners and community leaders,” Gregory said. “With forming those relationships, we are all working towards a goal to improve our city. Seeing everyone come together for a goal is the most rewarding aspect.”
Gregory was born and raised in LaFayette, graduating from Chambers Academy in 2020. She went on to attend Point University on an athletic scholarship, earning an associate’s degree in business administration before returning home to work alongside her mother, Dori Harmon, at the agency.
Her roots in the community are firmly planted. She and her husband, Connor Gregory, recently built their “forever home” in LaFayette.
“We couldn’t think of a better place to live than LaFayette,” she said.
When she isn’t in the office or attending downtown meetings, Gregory enjoys taking walks with the couple’s dachshund, Hank, cheering on the Auburn Tigers and going shopping — locally, of course.
As the new term begins, Gregory is eager to welcome fellow residents into the fold.
“I am honored to be selected to serve on the board and am excited to bring new ideas and new perspectives to this term,” Gregory said. “If anyone would like to join a committee and volunteer, we would love to have you. It is going to be a great year.”
