VALLEY — The Valley City Council addressed several property matters during its meeting on Monday, July 13. City Clerk Kathy Snowden read a resolution authorizing the purchase of property from Mendl Djunaidy.

According to the resolution, the city negotiated an agreement to purchase property adjacent to Interstate 85 from Djunaidy for $75,000. The resolution also authorized Mayor Leonard Riley to execute the purchase agreement, settlement documents and any other paperwork necessary to complete the transaction.

Riley explained the purpose of the purchase.

“This lot is located next to the interstate,” Riley said. “They asked us to provide a right of way through our property, which would split our property. I made them an offer on the land, and they accepted it. This is the contract to purchase the land so that we don’t have to give them a right of way.”

After approving the purchase, the council approved an ordinance authorizing the sale of city-owned property to Newmor Construction. Snowden said the property consists of two parcels measuring roughly 0.18 acres and 0.28 acres. The parcels are not currently being used by the city, and no future municipal use is anticipated. The property would be sold for a nominal price of $100.

Riley said the city previously sold adjacent property to Newmor Construction. He said the two additional parcels are located behind that property and are no longer needed by the city.

In other business, the council

• Approved the purchase of property from Sandra Burney.

• Approved a franchise agreement with Spectrum Southeast.
