LAFAYETTE — The LaFayette Sun has plans to restart mail subscriptions in October. Mail subscriptions will enable readers to have the LaFayette Sun delivered to their house every week via the U.S. Postal Service so residents can have Chambers County news without having to drive to town.
Mail subscriptions for the LaFayette Sun will cost $52 per year, and to start a subscription, readers can call the LaFayette Sun at (334) 864-8885 or (334) 749-8003.
Digital subscriptions will still be available for only $24 (plus tax).
Since the change in ownership in January of this year, owner and publisher Michelle Key said her office has received numerous calls asking about mailed subscriptions.
“Almost as soon as the news got out that we had assumed publishing of The Sun, we started receiving calls asking if we would restart the mail subscriptions which had been cancelled sometime in 2024,” Key said. “We received several calls from out-of-state people that expressed the desire to receive the paper so they can stay up to date on hometown news. We knew that it would take a while to get things in place to be able to restart this service, with one of those things being financially able to absorb the added cost required.”
The paper received a grant from LaFayette Main Street to assist with this cost.
“I am so grateful for Main Street and the work they do in this community,” Key said. “The grant we received will give us the funds needed to restart the mail service and will give us time to rebuild the subscriber list.”
The LaFayette Sun editors are proud to provide mail subscriptions for the Chambers County Community and continue to make the LaFayette Sun more accessible for all.
Newspapers will still be distributed at no cost throughout the community, however Key stressed that in order for the mail service to succeed, there is a need for people to subscribe.
“We need people to support the paper by subscribing to either a mail subscription or a digital subscription,” she said. “We have four to six months to build the subscriber base back up and generate enough income to cover all the costs associated with the mail service.”
Additionally, last month, the LaFayette Sun launched a website, where readers can enjoy full articles and digital editions from the comfort of their phone or computer. To explore the LaFayette Sun website, visit www.thelafayettesun.com.
