Liens imposed on properties in violation at Lanett council meeting

LANETT — Several properties had liens imposed upon them for violating the property maintenance code during Monday night’s regularly scheduled Lanett City Council meeting. Due to the property owners in question failing to maintain their properties in conformance with the city's property maintenance code, notice was given to them requesting their compliance. Following their failure to comply with the requests, the city proceeded to clean the properties as allowed under the code. Imposing the liens serves to recoup the costs incurred for the cleanups as well as certified postage and legal costs spent in the process of enforcing the code.
Each of the eight properties and their associated liens being imposed for the violations of the property maintenance code were read aloud as separate resolutions alternately by District 2 Council Member Tamalita Dunn Autry and District 4 Council Member Angelia Thomas.
Following the reading of each resolution, the council approved every single motion to impose a lien. Properties with liens assessed against them include locations owned by the following:
- Crown Castle PT Inc. in the 100 block of Cherry Drive
- James Smith Jr. in the 1100 block of South 3rd Street
- James Roberts at 511 North Sixth Ave.
- Mary Alice Darden at 1523 North Sixth Ave.
- Jonathan Porter at 608 South Eighth St.
- James Roberts 509 North Sixth Ave.
- Dwight Leroy Culbertson at 1011 South Fifth St.
- Manuel Oliviera at 1111 North Third St.
