LAFAYETTE — Chambers Academy continued its strong play across all levels.

After taking the crown at the JV State Invitational Tournament one year ago, the JV Lady Rebels are looking for a repeat this season. The team currently boasts an 11-0 record, outscoring their opponents 98-18.

The tournament held at Macon-East Montgomery Academy will be over the weekend with the JV Lady Rebels taking the field on Thursday night against the winner of the Bessemer/Morgan game. In the double elimination format, Chambers hopes to stay in the winners bracket to only play five total games on the way to the championship. Last year, the Lady Rebels had to battle through the losers bracket to find their way to the championship.

The Chambers Academy Lady Rebels faced Macon-East last week. The Knights took an early lead with a home run in the first inning, but Poppi Earl started the game with a double, and with bases loaded, Blakely Allen drove in two runs with a single and Ansley Carter hit an RBI to give Chambers a 3-1 lead in the first. The Lady Rebels added three more runs in the second.

Tenely Benefield hit an RBI single in the fourth to increase Chambers’ lead 7-1. Madison Stanford ended the game with a triple to send in two more runs and give Chambers the 9-1 win.

Defensively, the Lady Rebels had a great day. Pitcher Samantha Lovelace only faced 19 batters over five innings. She struck out five and only allowed two walks and two hits.

The Rebels found themselves trailing through the first six and a half innings as they hosted Macon-East. Down 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Eli Whorton singled with two runners on to cut the lead to three. Landon Hand then singled to load up the bases. Tucker Thrower flew out, but not before the runners could tag up and send in another run. Peyton Belcher took advantage of an error by the Knights and stole home. Hand then scored on a passed ball to tie up the game.

The Rebels defense held the Knights scoreless in the top of the seventh. Back at bat, Colton Fuller and Peyton Yerta singled and Whorton walked to once again load the bases. Hunter Andrews hit an RBI single to walk-off the win.

Bryce Modling got the save on the mound, striking out five batters.
