LAFAYETTE — At the July 13 LaFayette City Council Meeting, the council heard an update on the water after many constituents reported brown water after storms. Water Distribution Superintendent Allen Garrett explained how lightning from the recent storm stirred the residue in the pipes, making the water brown.
“Lightning struck; it created a lot of settlement off the pipe in the ground,” he said. “It got pushed to town by the finish pump. The finish pump got shut off. It came back. The finish pump came back on and flushed it back… I gave everyone my phone number personally. I told them before they go to Facebook, to contact me; I would do my best to alleviate the problem. If I cannot alleviate the problem, then go to Facebook. Truthfully, it’s going to continue to happen until we get the main replaced. I mean, it’s a system that’s integrated together. There’s no way I can take the water out of this line and it not come to town, it’s not going to happen. There’s just no way to avoid the situation until we replace the lines.”
