LAFAYETTE — For those visiting downtown LaFayette, there is a new addition to the Square: Zēk’s 37 has added seating to its patio. For customers and the Chambers County community, Zēk’s 37 is now a place to sit, eat and spend time with others outdoors.
“The focus is to be able to create an environment and a space where people can congregate, have conversations and be able to enjoy our coffees and our pizzas,” said Zēk’s 37 co-owner Veronica Roesly. “We just got done ordering our new ice cream machine that’s coming in about two weeks. So we’re getting ready to be able to offer ice cream here as well… The main thing is we wanted to create an additional space. And last week, I kid you not, when we were putting this up, people automatically started sitting on it and enjoying the weather, and the view is the best view in town, because you get to sit out there, and especially at night, those lights underneath the umbrellas, they light up, and the courthouse is lit up.”
Zēk’s 37 Head Manager Faith Rosely Sandoval said she is excited about the patio because it will attract more people to enjoy sitting outside on the LaFayette Square while they enjoy their food and sweet treats.
“It adds character,” she said. “It makes [the community] look pretty, and when you have stuff like this, it gives you an opportunity to pop in some color and it’s eye-catching. It makes you think, ‘Oh my gosh, that is a beautiful historic building, and they’re showing that they love that building.’”
LaFayette Main Street Executive Director DeAnna Hand shared her excitement for the addition and what it means to her to be able to help local businesses grow.
“We are so proud to see how the LaFayette Main Street Small Business Grant has helped enhance spaces like the patio at Zēk’s 37,” she said. “It’s more than just a beautiful addition, it’s creating a place where people can gather, connect and enjoy all that our downtown has to offer.”
Along with the addition of the patio, Rosely said Zēk’s 37 is also expanding its hours, so now locals and friends can grab a sweet treat after dinner or eat their pizza outside while enjoying the summer nights.
The new hours are:
• Monday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Tuesday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Wednesday, 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Sunday, closed
“Our hours have extended, and then we are coming up on our one year anniversary [of opening], which is April 22 and because it’s our one year anniversary, we are going to be running some fun specials that day,” she said. “It is on a Wednesday, and we’re going to be having some things that are going to be just $1 for that one year. So [locals should] look for those Facebook posts — we also are going to be instituting game nights and trivia nights, and then [we are] really focusing on open mic nights for people who sing or play instruments, along with comedians, who want to come in and utilize their talents and then start booking for the summertime to be able to get people in [to perform] on Saturday night.”
