CHAMBERS COUNTY — At the Monday, May 18, Chambers County Commission Meeting, the commission heard public comments from constituents and recognized county employees.
Constituent Yvonne Triplett shared her concerns over a neighbor in Fredonia and requested a hearing regarding the situation.
“I'm here today because my family is peaceful,” she said. “I've lived in the Fredonia area for 11 years. The enjoyment of our rural property has been repeatedly disturbed by ongoing harassment involving false complaints, drone activities over our house and selective attempts to enforce a noise ordinance without proper understanding of the facts or the circumstances involved.”
Constituent Lex Walton shared frustration over inconsistencies in trash pickup at his home.
“They missed my trash pick up twice last year, three times this year and for some inexplicable reason, they dumped one container one week and took a couple bags out of the other and left the rest of the trash in it,” he said. “I can get no explanation for it. I called and complained three times. I've been told that each time they would send somebody out to pick it up, and they never have.”
Chambers County Commissioner for District 4 Sam Bradford shared the success of local students at the Alabama PALS Poster Contest [fourth through sixth grade] and the Recycled Art Contest [seventh through 12th grade]. Winners include:
• Poster Contest Second Place — Gaines Clifton of Chambers Academy
• Recycled Art Contest Second Place — Savannah Luse and McKenzie Martinez of LaFayette High School
• Recycled Art Contest Third Place — Felipe Moura and Regina Dao of Springwood School
• Recycled Art Contest Honorable Mention — Aubrey Martin of Valley High School
• Recycled Art Contest Honorable Mention — Connor Moseley and Andrew Wittemore of Springwood School
• Recycled Art Contest Honorable Mention — Madison Huguley and Paris Holloway of LaFayette High School
Sheriff Jeff Nelson presented a certificate of appreciation for 10 years of service to Macy Whorton.
“Ms. Mason, this is for your 10 years of service to the citizens of Chambers County, more than anything to me in the Chambers County Sheriff's Department, and I thank you so much for everything you do,” he said.
County Engineer Josh Harvill recognized Mike Meadows and Sam Copeland for their years of service to the county and their upcoming retirement on May 28.
“They are special men, and I'm a better leader and a better person by having them in my life,” he said. “Mike and Sam will be missed by us, and most specifically me… Y'all have left a mark on me, and on everybody in our department you work with.”
