CHAMBERS COUNTY — The Chambers County Health Department is hosting an open house to celebrate the 150-year anniversary of the Alabama Department of Public Health on Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon EST at 5 N. Medical Park Drive in Valley.

“We invite the public to help us celebrate 150 years of ADPH,” said Alabama Department of Health Assistant District Administrator James Hardin. “We plan to highlight the many services we provide and answer any questions you may have.”

Hardin said the open house is important because it will celebrate the hard work of the Chambers County Health staff.

“It is great to celebrate the longevity of the department and the dedication that our staff has,” he said. “We have nurses, environmentalists, epidemiologists, physicians, clerical staff, nurse practitioners and we have all of these wonderful staff members that do a lot of different things, like our social workers as well and our disease intervention specialist.”

Along with celebrating staff, Hardin said it is important for community members to learn about the resources available for them through the Chambers County Health Department.

“We want our people to know where we are and where they can come for resources,” he said. “We also would like to celebrate our staff as well. We want our staff to be able to meet people who come in from the community. We also want to make sure that people can call us for help. If there’s something that they think that maybe we can help them with, we will absolutely do everything we can to help.”

Chambers County Health offers a variety of services for the community, and the open house will give locals a chance to learn more about these services.

“The Chambers County Health Department offers the public WIC, environmental, home care and clinical services. Clinical services include STD testing and treatment, family planning, childhood and other vaccines, Well Woman, and breast and cervical cancer screening,” Hardin said.

Hardin said he is proud that the Alabama Department of Public Health is celebrating 150 years and the dedication of the current staff.

“They are super dedicated to what they do, and there’s a lot of training that goes on for them to be able to deliver that level of care, and it’s important for us to celebrate their dedication to keeping people safe and keeping people healthy,” he said. “The fact that we’re still here to assist and try to be there for our communities is great.”
